Compare two character - Step by Wicked Step

Based on the novel Step by Wicked Step that I have studied, written by Anne Fine. I am going to compare and contrast the character in the story, which us Richard and Colin. There are similarities and differences between Both of them which can be observed clearly throughout the story.

First of all, Richard and Colin share the same similar fate where Both of them missed their fathers. Richard's father was died and replaced by Reverend Coldstone. In Colin's case, his mother moved away with father's knowledge. ' My mum and I did a flit. ' On the other hand, Richard had lost his father forever. '.... Sometimes I sit beside my father's grave.... ' He was forced to accept a new stepfather who treated him very badly. On the contrary, Colin did not like his new life without his dad around him. So, Colin did not giving up on searching for his stepfather.

However, there are also differences which can be observed between Richard and Colin. But, Both of them ignored by their mother and did not get any attention from their mother. Richard's mother did not defend him when Reverend Coldstone, his new stepfather treated him badly " Did she rise time her feet and flash her eyes.... " On the contrary, Colin's mother is not aware of how much he missed his dad because she was too busy working at the canteen and doing house chores. Both Richard and Colin did nit feel their mother's love at the time which they needed the most after losing their father.

Last but not least, both of these two character decided to run away to make things work better. Richard ran away from home with the Hope that he would make life more pleasant for everyone. Richard at the end realized that running away does nit solve the problem but things get worse. He learned that his mother died of heartbreak while his sister died of early childbirth that Charlotte sacrifices herself to a person who she did not like to able to continue the search for Richard. Besides, he also know that his stepfather was died of fury. In Colin's case, he planned to run away to find his stepfather when he have save enough money. In addition, Colin was determined to find his father. So, he does there paper rounds to earn money. " I even do three paper rounds. " Colin was also determined although his mother did nit allergic to do so.

In conclusion, these two characters suffered much with pain and sorrow because no one really cares about them, no one know how they felt without their fathers around them. Furthermore, no one willing to advise them and lead then to make a wrong decision in their lives. In another words, running away does not solve any problems, in fact it can affect the people around us. So, we should Always think wisely before doing any serious decision in life although there is no one who willing to guide us.
