How a character has changed due to certain events that have taken place in his or her life

The novel I have studied is Step by Wicked Step written by Anne Fine, a prolific writer who is well-known for her novel for children. Among the main characters, Colin attracts my attention the most because he had change a lot due to the experience he had met in his life.

First and foremost, Colin had changed into a very unhappy and lonely boy after his mother moved away without saying a word. " My mum and I did a flit. " He had to join a new school when his mother moved out of their home with him. Moreover, he had to go thru unpleasant experiences such as got ignored, the students had their own set of friends. " Nobody bothered with me, … " Another point is his mother was too busy with her need job, which works at the school canteen, and with her household chores. So, she had no time to listen to Colin's problems.

Furthermore, Colin becomes a dreamy boy which causes him to have less focus in class and did badly in school. " ... I started getting into trouble at school from being half asleep.  " A point of that Colin missed his dad very much. Colin showed four ways to express his feelings towards his dad. Firstly,  every night he would take the tobacco tin out of the toe of his boots andput it under his pillow. Then, he would hum their favourite song and stay awake for hours talking to his dad. He was just pretending that his dad was there.

Last but not least, Colin becomes more resourceful. It has been 5 years, 8 months & 7 days since he was separate from his dad. This really shows how much Colin missed his dad. He counted the days even after 5 years. He secretly writes his dad's name & his old address on the forms at school. " ... I always secretly sneak his name and our old address on all the forms... " He also tried to save money with doing three paper rounds to earn enough money to search for his dad when he is older. " I even do three paper rounds. "

In conclusion, Colin had made a change after so many events that have been taken place in his life. At first, Colin responded negatively to the changes in his life such as sad, dreamy and moody, but finally he decided tl do something worthy to search for his dad. Hence, his love and longing for his dad motivated him to become optimistic, resourceful and patient in his mission ---- search for his dad.
